Saturday, February 25th, Dr. Stephen Dempster, professor at Crandall University in Moncton, NB will be speaking at Charlottetown Community Church, 420 University Ave. D.A. Carson said, “Dempster’s reading of the story line of the Old Testament is fresh, provocative, helpful–and doubtless will prove to be the stuff of many sermons and lectures. His closing chapter points to some of the links that bind the Old and New Testaments together, an obviously urgent goal for the Christian preacher and teacher.” This evening could open your eyes to the Big Story of the Old Testament in a way that will change your view of the text, our mission and where we are in the story we find ourselves in. Cost is $5 at the door. Saturday, February 25th, 7 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Lecture with Q&A to follow.

We’ll be collecting new toys and donations on Sunday, December 18th for families who could use a little help this Christmas. You can bring a wrapped gift with a tag identifying it as boy/girl and age range or just bring in the new toy. You can put your donations in with your offering, noting the amount for Christmas help. We can share the love this season in simple ways that really matter.

Michelle B works at a nursing home. On our Facebook site she’s organized a mission that many of us have jumped in on! Here’s the info and your invitation to take part:

Some nursing homes have a “comfort cart” filled with things for the family/resident to use during the dying process. For example: perhaps a Bible, some relaxation CDs, some nice stationary for journaling, books with short/inspirational stories (e.g. Chicken Soup for the …) The unit I work on doesn’t have one of these carts. I am thinking this would be a great opportunity for our church to help out. Anyone insterested?

Many of us have volunteered to take part and you can too! The cart will need continual “refreshing” every month with new stationary, books and other things. You can also designate some loonies or twoonies to help keep the cart stocked. It’s at the Beech Grove Nursing home if you want to visit!

Rethinking how you read the Bible. For the next few weeks we’ll meet on Wednesday nights, 7 p.m. at the Farm Centre, Room 105, to talk through the book “Blue Parakeet” by Scot McKnight. We’ll go below the surface and discuss the issues his book raises. Bring your copy of BP, your Bible (if you have one) and a heart to listen and discuss.

Two years ago when we participated in a national online survey of all of the churches in the network of Vineyard churches in Canada. The plan was to repeat this survey in two years so that we could assess our progress. The two year period is now complete and we are ready to roll out this survey again in February.

The aim of the simple, anonymous survey is to help each local community get a crystal clear picture of where they really are. It will show you your strengths and your primary challenges and help you identify your growing edge. It will also show you other churches that can be a great help to you in your weaker areas.

The survey is for people aged 15 and older. Please take time to participate.

On Sunday, February 20 the SURVEY WILL BE ACTIVE and we’ll provide a link to the survey site.

January 14, 15. 7 pm Friday & 9:30 am on Saturday. A Community Church weekend to share the vision, set goals and focus our sense of what comes next. We’ll meet to worship, pray, envision and engage. Everyone who is part of Community Church is invited to participate! We will be worshipping together, talking about growing deeper in our relationship with God and each other, working in small groups to hear God’s voice for goals for 2011, eating lunch together, laughter and developing a deeper sense that we ARE the church!

Please use the pages that are on the “Update Table” on Sunday to correct or add your information that you would like printed for the rest of our church to use to be able to contact you. You can also email any updates in to the office and you can attach your own photo file if you have one you’d prefer we use for the new directory.

This isn’t a membership list or list of “Christians” it’s a list of people who are open to others having this information to be able to contact you for parties, with info or for a special event.
